"A
Farewell to Arms" by Earnest Hemingway. I am reading this boom in my
Honors English class right now. This is an Exciting book about a war veteran
who was commander during world war one. The first chapter is about him
describing his Italian house in Italy where he was born. He goes into great
detail about his childhood. In the next chapter he speaks about the time he was
on a world war one boat, he had his leg blown off by an explosion on the water.
That’s where the story actually begins. After the explosion he is transported
to a hospital. He meets a girl at the hospital. He immediately falls in
love with her, he name was Catherine. They went on many secret dates. The dates
were secret because she could not be seen with him. Catherine ended up becoming
pregnant and that was around the time the commander had to return to the war.
When he got back to the front he missed her every day. He used to write her
letters every chance he could get. He went back to the hospital to visit her
secretly. He took her on her very last date, he took her to a horse race. They
placed bets on horses and their horse didn’t win and they thought it was set
up. They later met with their friends at the horse arena and they had somehow
found out about Catherine being pregnant. The commander was very scared. This was
a very good book. I enjoyed it greatly. I would defiantly recommend it to
another student.
